BRITISH Muslims donate the most of any faith to charity according to a poll carried out by the ICM.
The survey reported that an estimated 280,000 Muslims in the UK give more money annually to charity than Jews, Christians, Hindus and Sikhs.
ICM carried out the poll on behalf of JustGiving, which provides an online platform for worthy causes to gain donations. The number of donations by Muslims on this site has seen a 70 per cent rise in the past two.
CEO of JustGiving, Zarine Kharas said: “Our data shows many of Britain’s Muslim communities are at the forefront of digital giving, driving an increase in zakat donations.”
In 2010 British Muslims donated over £94,000. But this figure was over £200,000 in 2012. Various Islamic charities like Muslim Aid, Islamic Relief and the Zakat Trust were the beneficiaries of this generosity.
The ICM poll found that Muslims say they donate about £369 per person per year. Jews came in second place donating £268 per person annually.
