NOW this is just conjecture but I have a feeling that Margin Call could be the sleeper hit of the year, to hit UK cinema’s in 2012.
I know the film has been out since October in the States and actually received it’s first screening at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival last January. But it opens here in the UK on 13th January, with a premier in London on the 9th.
It hasn’t been confirmed as to how wide the distribution will be for the Independent film written and directed by J.C. Chandor, making his directorial debut. But in the States it is already out on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Despite all of the confusion distribution wise, this is a film I am definitely looking forward to see. It just has all the makings of a sleeper. It has a ensemble star cast, but is kept realtively low budget, and usually when stars take a step down, it’s either out of necessity or to get back in touch with what made them want to be actors.
Kevin Spacey takes a break from selling American Airlines tickets, Demi Moore moves away from her high profile marriage, whilst Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons and Stanley Tucci are all on hand in this film based on the collapse of the Lehman Brothers bank.
But more importantly the affable Simon Baker apparently plays a focal character in the film.
Now without tempting fate, I think this will be a good film.
