Assange’s Insurance Policy

Julian Assange claimed today that he is in possession of “insurance” files on Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.

News Corp is one of the largest and most powerful, media outlets. It owns titles such as The Sun, News of the World, The Times as well as considerable share in BSkyB.

Recently News Corp made the headlines as they looked to increase their share in BSkyB. Only to be rebuffed by the business secretary who asked the Competition Commission to look into the takeover.

Since then the business secretary Vince Cable has landed in hot water for openly declaring war on the Murdoch empire. Leading to the Liberal Democrat minister being stripped of overseeing the takeover.

Assange refers to specific cables as insurance files that are to be released if something happens to the Australian. Currently the 39 year old is facing extradition to Sweden and fears deportation to the United States where he faces the possibility of the death penalty or imprisonment at Guantanamo Bay.

There are said to be another 500 unreleased cables, son News Corp. I’m intrigued to know what these insurance files on News Corp consist. They have the potential to shake up not only the make up of the media but also the entire political scene.

The only thing for certain is that the worms are clearly out of the can, the authorities are struggling desperately to contain them.
